What did everyone play? Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Halo, SOCOM, Super Smash Bros Melee–there were all kinds of games. This was a time where the lines between virtual and reality started to blur in the best way possible. It was a decade where gaming became a way of life, not just a hobby.Consoles like the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Nintendo GameCube, and the trusty Game Boy Advance exploded in popularity, creating rivalries and communities that still exist today. These systems became centerpieces of bedrooms and living rooms, hosting some of the most iconic and groundbreaking games of all time. Halo revolutionized first-person shooters and laid the foundation for online multiplayer gaming as a social experience, turning friendly competition into something epic. Grand Theft Auto: Vice City pushed boundaries with its immersive open world and unforgettable soundtrack, letting players lose themselves in a chaotic digital city that felt alive. Meanwhile, computer games carved out their own legacy. The Sims introduced an entirely new kind of simulation: one where we could build lives, relationships, and homes from scratch, watching them flourish or fall apart. Games like RollerCoaster Tycoon and Age of Empires taught us creativity and strategy, while others like StarCraft and Counter-Strike ignited the spark of what would become global eSports. And who could forget Kingdom Hearts? A dreamy crossover that blended Disney magic with the emotional depth of a Japanese RPG–it gave us action, mystery, and childhood wonder all wrapped into one unforgettable journey. If we’re talking about gaming, I would say the Mario Brothers ruled the gaming industry. They showed what an adventure was like and connected peers and individuals all around the world, even bringing generations together with their challenge, soundtracks, and lovable characters.

Gaming didn’t just stay in your living room, it was everywhere. Dance Dance Revolution lit up arcades, and Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire got everyone on the go, battling and trading through the Game Boy. Then came the Wii, and gaming was revolutionized once again. The Wii introduced motion controls that made you feel like you were part of the action. No longer was gaming just about sitting on the couch with a controller—suddenly, you were in the game. Whether it was swinging a tennis racket, bowling a strike, or trying to perfect your balance on a ski slope, Wii Sports turned your living room into a playground. And the best part? The gaming experience wasn’t just about the games themselves—it was about the shared experiences. It was about playing together, challenging each other, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. The 2000s were the start of gaming as we know it today, blending fun, competition, and creativity in ways that continue to define the industry. And to this day, those classic games and consoles are still shaping how we game. Nintendo DS was also one of the most popular handheld consoles. Sith its dual screens, touchscreen gameplay, and endless library of games, it felt like carrying a whole arcade in your pocket. Switching to a different game every time you were done playing a game, you were able to entertain yourself by playing with these small gadgets. Although we may have moved on to more powerful consoles and more complex games, the spirit of those early 2000s experiences—the simplicity, the joy, and the connection—is still alive and well in every game we play.
